Cromford Venture Centre
Making a positive difference to young lives
Owned and managed by the Arkwright Society, The Cromford Venture Centre is a residential centre of distinctive character and charm housed in part of a two hundred year old corn mill.
The former maltings were sympathetically restored just over ten years ago by the Arkwright Society and provide living and dormitory accommodation for parties of up to thirty young people and four leaders. The kiln, where the malt was roasted, has been turned into dining and meeting room space.
Although designed for use by children and young people, the building is also available for most types of adult groups. Groups from disadvantaged backgrounds are especially welcome. Regular users include schools, youth groups, scouts and guides, performing arts groups, Boys Brigade and large family gatherings.
A recent addition to the Venture Centre’s facilities is the Gothic Warehouse on Cromford Canal Wharf, offering two large, fully equipped meeting rooms – the ground floor with wheelchair access.
The Venture Centre provides an ideal base for outdoor activities, study visits, holidays, training and development courses. The Tour Guide team at Cromford Mill are happy to help groups plan their programmes.
The Venture Centre is supported by a number of corporate and charitable organisations who have donated funds to financially assist certain groups using the centre. With donations from companies including Severn Trent, Capital One, and the Derbyshire Building Society, the Arkwright Society may be able to offer support to groups of children from disadvantaged backgrounds who would benefit.
