Matlock Civic Association

Matlock Civic Association is concerned with the conservation and improvement of the environment of Matlock and district

Matlock Civic Association is a group within the Arkwright Society and is concerned with the conservation and improvement of the environment of Matlock and district. It comments on planning applications and campaigns for improvements to make Matlock a better place. We have been involved in a long-running effort to make Crown Square a more attractive space at the heart of Matlock. The Association also carries out its own projects. In 2005 we designed and built the new public viewpoint overlooking the river at Matlock Bridge. In 2008 we completed the restoration of a World War 2 Air Defence site at Bailey's Tump on Asker Lane and opened it as a new public park. We have also recently published two booklets of historic Town Trails around Matlock. These booklets are available through the Arkwright Society's shop or from the Tourist Information Centre in Crown Square.

Everyone is welcome to support the Association's work, whether or not they are able to attend our monthly meetings or participate in projects. Our regular meetings are on the second Monday of every month (except August) and are held in the Methodist Church Hall (below the church on Bank Road), starting at 7.30pm

The Association's Secretary is Ken Parker, 5 Wishingstone Way, Matlock DE4 5LU. Telephone 01629 584323. Email kenparker@uwclub.net
