A wide ranging retail experience in a distinctive setting
Cromford Mill offers a wide ranging retail experience in attractive surroundings. All purchases make a contribution to the work of the Society – directly or indirectly.

The following shops are managed by the Arkwright Society and are open everyday except Christmas Day:
Shop in the Yard
Stocks a wide selection of gifts, greeting cards and books of local interest including publications relating to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Shop in the Yard stocks Emma Bridgewater Fine Pottery, Robert Opie Nostalgic Gifts, Mitchell's Wool Fat Soaps and Toiletries, and much more. Tickets for guided tours of the mill site are also available, tel: 01629 824297
Opening Hours: 9 am to 5 pm daily
Arkwright's Attic
This is part of the Society's recycling initiative and provides visitors with the opportunity to purchase glass and tableware, used books and bric-a-brac. All of these raise funds for six of our projects.
Opening Hours: Dependent on vollunteers - can be opened on request
The Christmas Shop
Stocks over 30 different charity cards, a wide selection of festive food, calendars, diaries, Christmas decorations, gifts and books.
Opening Hours: 10am to 4 pm daily. The Christmas Shop is open annually from August Bank Holiday until early January. Coach parties welcome.
Recycling
You can also participate in the recycling scheme by bringing your glass and plastic bottles, aluminium cans, paper and cardboard to the recycling centre. It is located in the main car park.
There is a very wide range of books available:
- in the Shop in the Yard: a variety of specialist books at discount prices including many books related to local industrial history. These include: art, antiques, architecture, biography, classic and popular fiction, poetry, natural history, science, archaeology, countryside, outdoor pursuits, military and social history, crafts, gardens, cookery, travel, transport, chiildren's books.
- a constantly changing stock of second hand books in Arkwright's Attic including classic novels, poetry, modern blockbusters, old reference books, travel, cookery, gardening and crime.
- in Wheatcroft's Wharf: wildlife, nature, organic living, traditional crafts, walking, cycling, canals, OS maps.
Other Shops
There are some other shops which add considerably to the retail experience at Cromford Mill. These are privately managed and details are available here.
