Slinter Woodland Seeks Volunteers
A Derbyshire landscape of ancient woodland and old hay meadows, nestling in a valley of bygone industry, awaits the visitor to the Via Gellia
Tall herb grassland, bordered by steep ash woods and wet woodland provides important wildlife habitats in this SSSI and area of outstanding natural beauty.
The Slinter Committee manages the site on behalf of the Arkwright Society and is appealing for volunteers to support its work in preserving the landscape and encouraging more visitors to discover the beauty and historical significance of Slinter Woodland.
There are many ways to become involved:
- your interest may be in working the landscape - either with the occasional stroll and noting changes in vegetation or reporting obstructed footpaths and broken fences, or you may prefer more hands on work through controlling ragwort, scrub and nettle
- your skills may lie in promoting the landscape - attracting visitors to the site, sharing local knowledge, offering guided tours, or fundraising
- or you may be an artist who celebrates the landscape through your work.
Whatever your interest or skill, discover how your involvement can make a difference in helping to preserve Slinter Woodland for future generations. For further details contact the Slinter Committee: 01629 56474.
