Volunteer Opportunities

Feb 2012 - The Arkwright Society at Cromford Mill has exciting volunteer opportunities for those seeking a challenge!!! See item below about volunteers for the shops.

The Arkwright Society could not have achieved its growth and success so far without the large body of volunteers who have offered their time and tackled a wide variety of work. This includes: tour guides, shop attendants, secretarial and administrative support, catering, Christmas staff, production and distribution of leaflets and newsletters, website development, environment and ecological monitoring, photography and habitat management. There are as many volunteers as members of staff and this provides a healthy balance of expertise and energy.

The majority of volunteers work part time and some of the jobs can be done mostly from home, with occasional visits to Cromford Mill.

Volunteering for the Arkwright Society offers a brilliant chance to participate actively in local culture, gain an insight into history and make new friends. Would you like to join us as a volunteer? Working alonside Society staff can be hugely rewarding and help you develop skills which you may later want to use in the workplace. We need help with developing / upgrading the following:

Marketing and distribution

Press and PR - media relations

Journalist and Editorial (website and newsletter;/ member correspondence)

Standard Operational Procedures

Development of a volunteer induction programme and manual

Development of membership and corporate membership services

Community relations

Event management

Archiving

Fundraising

Shops - Volunteers are urgently needed to work in the shops at Cromford Mills. If you could spare us any of your time please contact Jen Clay or Fran Walters on 01629 823256. Full training will be given.

Also we need one or more volunteers to help with the visitor survey taking place in 2011. The first task is to help develop a visitor survey form. This will be distributed by our tour guides to visitors and asking them to complete the survey forms. However the key part of this exercise, which will take place from Easter through to October, will be some analysis of the data collected. We will need a volunteer to do this for us

If you would like to get involved, please contact Catherine Wild on 01629 823256 or at cwild@arkwrightsociety.org.uk and we will be happy to introduce you to the team and explain the posts in more detail.
